What Makes You Mad? By: Mrs. Hall

Kathy and Grace write and illustrate emotions that move them...

We teach a lot of... "Writers write what they know".  I say this a lot.  A writer can't possibly write what they know nothing about, though some try, it doesn't quite resonate with the reader when this is attempted.  So we know that writer's must write about what they KNOW a lot about, BUT have you ever thought about what makes you mad?  What makes you feel content?  What moves you to feel gracious?  Or inspired?  Or annoyed? 

...emotions move us. Emotions challenge us as writers, and when kids begin writing about what moves them to emotion, we get pieces of substance.  We get a writer's voice...  Today we brainstormed what gets to us.... So before you write, think about what really moves you.  Write about it.

...even better... do something about it...

It's vital to establish a united heartbeat in a classroom...One that uses all of the unique attributes of each student to establish an environment where learning is cultivated and new ideas are shared....and where differences are appreciated!  The mission of the first week of school is to establish this heartbeat... it's a lot more than establishing rules and procedures, it's about establishing the fact that all students are different and we are going to spend the next 180 days working together, learning from one another, and growing as learners.... 

Welcome 2nd Graders and Parents By: Mrs. Hall

Welcome to 2nd Grade!  It is a delight to be back in the classroom!  I have been away since March, as Mr. Hall and I welcomed our third child.  We had Grantham Marshall in April and we have had a busy spring and summer every since!  We live a lovely little life, the five of us Halls...  We have two other children, Asher & Zoey.  Mr. Hall is the Choral Director and Musical Director at Warsaw Community High School and is also the worship leader at our church in Warsaw.  Together we love to travel, read, go out to dinner, cook, and bake.  You may even find us at the Hawkins Family Farm, right here in North Manchester, making pizzas!
